winter: indoor activities

Look what I made today—beautiful multigrain crusty, rustic bread—in an electric oven. I didn't use a recipe, but more of a method from an article in last month's Mother Earth News. The article is an excerpt from the book Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day. I used a mixture of whole wheat, rye and bread flour for this; there was no kneading involved, and it tastes as good as it looks.


On another front, this is why kittens should be illegal. The sectional beam is not a good place to play, as far as I'm concerned. Cassidy has different ideas.

Look how great the baby is doing...she's really a wild one, Miss Hopalong Cassidy. A wonderful addition to our feline family.

She's back home and recovering. Purring up a storm and hobbling around just fine. Thanks for all the good thoughts everyone!

Halloween farmcat

This little one just magically showed up on the porch the other day. The kitten-fairy delivery, I suppose. Anyway, she's got a dislocated hip, broken leg and foot and nerve damage enough to require an amputation. She's a sweetie; it's being done tomorrow. Prayers to the God of Small Cats.

I just finished this little sweater. It was a 3 day project, though it hasn't been blocked yet. The yarn is Galway Paint worsted weight wool. I have no idea if it will fit a real, actual baby, as I don't have one handy here. But my model, MacCumbee was kind enough to help out.
